Heading East we were headed to the Petrified Forest/Painted Desert near Holbrook, AZ. The painted desert and petrified forest reminded me of a little Badlands that you find in South Dakota. Biologists claim this area as one if the best remnants of native Arizona grasslands.
We visited Jackrabbit Trading Post and had out photos taken on the rabbit as well as in front of the famous billboard along Historic Route 66.
Crossing into a different state, out plan was and is always to jump out of the car and pose for a photograph. Some states make that impossible because the state line is over a river. We stopped every chance we got.
Old Towne Albuquerque was a great place to stop for a few minutes to stretch our legs. Wish we had more time to spend walking around. Next time...
Driving toward Texas, dramatic weather systems were just ahead of us producing beautiful artwork in the ski.
Arriving into Texas after sunset wasn't the original plan. Eating dinner at 9:30 at the Big Texan was fun. We had driven through time changes and out bodies had no idea what time it was. We shared a steak dinner and went to sleep in a western-themed hotel room.
